The president of the Southern
California Chapter of the Kurdish American Youth Organization
(KAYO) spoke about his group and the various goals set and
achievements made by the Kurdish youth. He explained
that education has been a primary focus for his organization
and one that members continue to focus on. |

There is no doubt that every Kurd has dreamed
of one thing above all others, and that one thing is to enjoy
the fruitfulness of being an Independent country that offers
us all the chance to live our lives to the fullest. It is
time for our people to live in peace, it's time for us to
free our souls from the cage of uneducated minds and start
to live and fight for our nation and our recognition. |

Kurdish
youth stand trial in Turkey for singing a song -

At the festival
in California, the kids sang a wide range of traditional
Kurdish folk songs, played instruments, and even danced
for the audience. Now, back in Turkey, a few of them are facing
charges by Turkish prosecutors for singing these songs
in California...

Newroz is the traditional spring festival
of the Kurds, but it has gained overt political significance
ever since the Kurdish struggle against Turkish oppression
gained the character of a mass movement in the early 1990s.
This year, once again, hundreds of thousands of people came
out to celebrate Newroz in Amed (Diyarbakir) and the other
cities of Northern Kurdistan. |

The Kurdish American Youth Organization (KAYO) held its second
annual conference last month at the University of Texas at
Dallas (UTD). The purpose of the conference was to provide
a forum of discussion for the Kurdish Youth in North America
and to promote leadership and education among the youth, as
well as to establish partnerships and help spread Kurdish awareness. |

The Kurdish American Youth Organization – or KAYO – was
established to bridge the gap between the desires of the Kurdish
youth to uphold that basic value and the ability to be active
in fulfilling it. KAYO excelled in its almost three years as
an organization incorporating young Kurdish members – and
even non-Kurds – all over the United States from many
different backgrounds. |

a romantic comedy directed by Jay Jonroy, Kurdish-American
independent director and producer. The film was inspired
by a true story and brings together the traditions, cultures
and societal norms
of a woman born to a Kurdish-Muslim family, and a man of
Jewish-American descent.
