Summer camp to build bridges between Diaspora and Kurdistan youth

Kurdistan Regional Government - Ministry of Sport & Youth | 17-Dec-06

Hewlêr (Erbil), Kurdistan - Summer is that special time when the academic community unwinds at the end of the school year and prepares for the coming one. Prepare for your college year by spending two weeks in June and July 2007 in the Kurdistan Region to exchange your knowledge and skills with Kurdistan’s youngsters.

Opportunity for Diaspora youth to discover Kurdistan
The Ministry of Sport and Youth (MOSY) Camp School offers university or college of higher education students in the Diaspora the opportunity to discover the amazing nature and rich culture of the Kurdistan Region that dates back hundreds of years.

Camp open to students
The MOSY camp is open to university or college of higher education students aged 18 to 30 years. Participants should be students in the following areas; sport, English language, IT, vocational training, art, singing, music, sociology, economics, media and political science.

The programme is packed full of hands-on learning activities. The main purpose of the camp is that participants living in the Diaspora will exchange their experiences with youngsters from Kurdistan. The camp will work as a unique platform for youth from different backgrounds to share ideas and build bridges.

Camps merge recreation and adventure with education in a nurturing community of peers, role models and care-givers. A camp's ability to create positive social experiences, and the expertise that is developed along the way, can help to solve the problems of intolerance and alienation faced by our schools and communities.

The programme is also designed to empower women. To combat the lack of gender-equality in the Kurdistan Region, MOSY encourages female students to join the programme.

Our aim is to facilitate an enjoyable and worthwhile experience for all who stay with us.

We will provide:

  1. Suggestions for an exciting camp programme.
  2. A safe and secure environment for students.
  3. Accommodation costs for the students. However, flight expenses are not included.
  4. A mentorship while on location, which allows campers to share their thoughts with MOSY and get a response in the form of different subsidiary projects.
  5. Campership funds are available to provide partial financial assistance to campers who would otherwise be unable to attend the camp. We recommend that participants apply for financial aid as soon as possible since campership awards are needs-based and granted on a first-come first-served basis.
