Koma Dengê Zarokên Amedê Concert

Kurdish American Youth Organization

Fifteen members of the Kurdish Children and Youth Music Group from Kurdistan are coming for their premier performances in San Francisco, San Diego and Saratoga, California. Currently living in Diyarbakir, they are traveling to the other side of the world bringing with them some of the greatest talent in music. The group called Sound of the Kurdish Youth of Amed (Kurdish: Koma Dengê Zarokên Amedê) consists of 14 girls and boys ranging from the ages of 8 to 16 year. These young talents sing and play their own percussion and tembur instruments. Most of the members are either homeless or live in very disadvantaged parts of Diyarbakir (Kurdish: Amed), a Kurdish city situated in southeast Turkey.

This chorus was established two years ago, and they have performed with famous groups such as Kardes Türküler in Istanbul, Silvan and Diyarbakir. They have performed almost every month in various venues since their first performance. This amazing group of committed young artists sings in eight different languages in addition to their native Kurdish tongue. All of the group members play percussion instruments of davul, darbuka and arbane, in addition to the lute tembur.

This group is accompanied by their young, talented director, Ms. Duygu Ozge, who is 21 years old. Ms. Ozge has been a member of a chorus since the age of 10. She performed with prominent singer Sezen Aksu in Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya and Brussels (Belgium). Previously she was working with children's percussion and singing group for Sur Municipality in Diyarbakir. She is currently working for Yenisehir Municipality, where she teaches singing, and she also volunteers as a teacher at the two churches in Diyarbakir.
