The Kurdish American Youth Organization (KAYO), with the help of the Kurdish
communities in North America, has initiated an effort to provide assistance
to the Kurdish flood victims in Turkey.
Flash floods caused by torrential rain hit
the country this month with the most serious damage to the cities
of Diyarbakir (Amed)
and Batman. The Dicle News Agency has reported that the current
death toll as a result of the flood is at least 40 in the impoverished
regions. According to the Milliyet, this is a result of the “shoddy
construction and creaking infrastructure” in these regions.
Since then, many homes have collapsed and thousands of people have
been dislocated as a result. The Diyarbakir Physicians Chamber
has also warned against infectious diseases resulting from the
mixture of waste water into drinking water. The cities’ mayors
have called for help from both international relief organizations
and the Turkish government, but so far all help has been minimal.
KAYO is accepting monetary donations in support
of flood relief efforts to help the people affected by the flooding.
We, the Kurdish American Youth, ask for your help in the form
of donations so that we may proceed in helping the victims.
Collections for this fund relief have
now ended.
The Kurdish American Youth Organization thanks all those who
contributed to this effort.
