On Tuesday March 21st, celebrating the Newroz holiday, the Kurdish
American Youth held its first official event in Dallas, Texas. The
University of Texas at Dallas hosted an International Cultural Day
event in which many of the different nations around the world represented
their cultures and Kurdistan was among them.

The Kurds in the Dallas area took part in the International
cultural day at the University of Texas at Dallas by setting up
a Kurdistan booth and displaying the beautiful Kurdish cultures
for students, faculty and visitors to see.
Many Kurdish students and friends
took part in this event and helped share the kurdish culture,
history and traditions to over
two-hundred and fifty participants. There was Kurdish govend/helperkê (dancing),
music, and food. The main goal of the Kurdish American Youth in
this event was to educate non-kurdish people about the beautiful
Kurdish culture and the history of the Kurdish people. This year,
the Kurdistan flag stood alongside the other countries of the world,
and Kurdistan was recognized as a nation in it's own right. The
Kurdish American Youth (KAYO) was the lead organizer in this event,
and the KAYO hopes to be able to organize and coordinate more events
like this in the future.
