I'm in Love

Kurdish American Youth - by Apo Welatparez | 29-Mar-08

I'm in love with curls
Just like curves of mountains
In love with olive eyes
Stars shining through them
Every stroke of the Saz takes me to Guerillas
We were born rebels, we die rebels
I got old, not even you
Just like my destiny

I'm in love with attitude
Don't hold back a word from the devil
Fires of the New Year with tears of happiness
In love with the color of my people
Color of civilization
A mother called Mesopotamia
Raped and massacred a thousands times

Working class in the dirt but with dignity
The homemade bread smokes over the valley
Just like a sip of freedom
I'm in love with my dark black tea

A kiss on the cheek
A hug from the heart
And a wish over the years
Make me in love with myself

Vandalized home blessed to most of us
Just like separated rooms without lights
A Fascist leader instead of a Brave father
A Resented government instead of an Honorable mother
And Bootlicking siblings instead of Just brothers and sisters

I'm in love despite the facts that I survive in this hell
I'm in love despite
the facts that I am a Kurd

Fires of the New Year with tears of happiness
In love with the color of my people
Color of civilization
A mother called Mesopotamia
Raped and massacred a thousands times

Working class in the dirt but with dignity
The homemade bread smokes over the valley
Just like a sip of freedom
I'm in love with my dark black tea

A kiss on the cheek
A hug from the heart
And a wish over the years
Make me in love with myself

Vandalized home blessed to most of us
Just like separated rooms without lights
A Fascist leader instead of a Brave father
A Resented government instead of an Honorable mother
And Bootlicking siblings instead of Just brothers and sisters

I'm in love despite the facts that I survive in this hell
I'm in love despite the facts that I am a Kurd
